On Saturday afternoon, after getting back from the Jatujak Market, Kris and I went for some lunch and brought take-out back for Amy and the kids. I love Thai food in the States, but Thai food in Thailand? It’s AMAZING! Kris tells me I’ll love it even more in Ubon. Can’t wait!
It was tough to wake up the kids when we got back. They’re having a bit of trouble adjusting to the time change. While Amy and the kids ate their lunch, I shared my faith story with Kris and Amy. God has brought Jared and I through so much, and we just give Him praise for all He is doing in our life! We know and believe that God’s word is truth—“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 Jared and I are experiencing this right now. God has given me (us) this testimony, and my prayer is that as I share it, it may be an encouragement to others!
While Kris and Amy visited with some church friends on Saturday afternoon after lunch, I hung out with the kids. We ended up playing “four-square” which was something I haven’t done since elementary school. It’s a joy to see them smile and hear their laughter!
On Saturday night, we met some other friends of Amy and Kris for dinner. These friends had been their Thai teachers. We ate at a place called the “Food Loft.” They had foods from all over the world (India, Thailand, Japan, China, Italy, Greece). It was sort of laid out like a food court and you would place your order (you could eat from all of the various places) and then sit down at a table. They’d bring your food to you. So, it was a combination of food court/restaurant. I enjoyed some garlic naan from India, a salad from Greece and some pasta from Italy. It seemed wrong to order Italian in Thailand, but it was good!
On Sunday morning, I woke up with this word…”Blessed be the name of the Lord, who was and is and is to come.” I realized today, that it was exactly one year ago today, when I found out about this job opportunity at BICWM and then a few days later was given the prophetic word from Todd White on the plane where it was confirmed by God that I would get this job. How awesome is God!?
After having breakfast at the Guest House this morning, we took a taxi to the Peace of Bangkok Church (house church) with Aj. Phaitoon. It was a joyful and tearful reunion for Amy and the Phaitoons. It was also a beautiful thing to watch Dr. Phaitoon interact with Micah. I believe God is going to use Micah in huge ways to follow his Daddy’s footsteps. You could really sense God moving!
Amy shared from her heart about her journey during the service. It was a beautiful time of worship. God was there and the Spirit was moving! I am always in awe of God and how he works! We serve an awesome and amazing God! In all of my experiences in my international travels, the churches are all on fire! We need to bring this fire back to the States!!
During lunch with the Phaitoons after church, Dr. Phaitoon was telling me about their earthworm farm. They showed us the “farm.” There are stacks of drawers filled with earthworms (50 in each drawer which multiple to up to 10,000 in each drawer!) and they feed them anything! The bottom drawer in the stack collects the worm waste which they bottle up and sell to make money! And, the stuff is amazing! It enhances the growth of their plants. It’s becoming a big thing in Thailand. (Jay and Beth...if your're reading this, isn't this what you were thinking of doing at one time--having a worm farm? :o) )
After lunch, we returned to the Guest House for a little power nap before going out in the evening for supper. We took the bus to go to “The Big C” – which is sort of like a glorified Walmart. We ate supper in the food court there (unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy my Thai food here as much) and then went to Svenson’s (like Friendly’s) for ice cream (which I DID enjoy very much!)
For our return trip to the Guest House, we rode in a tuk-tuk. All 6 of us piled in the tuk-tuk. We REALLY go to experience the smells of Thailand on this trip! We’re trying to take all of the 7 modes of transportation—taxi, bus, sky train, subway, tuk-tuk, boat, and motorcycle. I think we’ll have them all in before the entire trip is over!
Monday should be a pretty low-key day again. Late on Monday night, both Alan Roper and his daughter, Emily, will be joining us for the remainder of the trip. We’re excited to have them join us!
Enjoy the pictures….some sights from our day!
